When we start to honor where we came from and how we were created from billions of years of this beautiful, magical, mystical thing we call evolution, we can start to learn a lot about ourselves. Humans evolved perfectly with the flora and the fauna for billions of years. Our ecosystem is a beautiful web of intricate relationships that is so intricate we cannot even begin to understand it. It is amazing to think that a whole ecosystem from the seaweed to the largest fish can be disrupted if some form of algae stops growing in a lake. We have all learned about the beauty of how all things on earth are interrelated. Even a woman’s cycle is 28 days, which is the same cycle as the moon, an entity that is not even on this earth. We, as part of nature, can learn a lot about how to live by just sitting back and observing it.
Our first ancestors who had almost identical genetic codes as we do were hunter gathers. Since that time 10,000 years ago, not much, genetically has changed. However, if you look at our lifestyle now, it is drastically different. I laugh to myself as I am sitting on my couch with my air conditioning, typing on my laptop while music is playing in the background. I stop only to answer text messages on my phone or to go the bathroom in my house!! Our genes, or the way we were created through survival of the fittest are no longer able to keep up with our ever changing lifestyle. Even look back 100 years. 100 years ago, you would not even recognize some of the products that we call “Food” in our grocery store. Most fruits and vegetables are genetically modified and the entire center of a grocery store consists of processed things. Even 100 years ago, people were more active, were doing more hard labor, and were walking a lot more. In the 21st century, we drive everywhere and we spend most of our time in front of some sort of electrical device. People are constantly being stimulated by the TV, music, computer, phones, advertisements etc.
Our life is so different now that our genes could not have possibly caught up. Nature works in eons and humans work in decades. When it comes to learning how to be healthy, I do not believe that it can be found in a test tube or in a new pill or in a new diet plan. It can only be found by getting in touch with nature.
How did our ancestors live? Well they got plenty of exercise; they walked about 15 miles per day, hunted animals, and danced by the fire at night. They ate living food like fruits, vegetables, organic meats, and nuts and seeds. They had a lot of quiet, down time. They had time to get in touch with nature and with some form of spiritual practice. Basically, they did all of the things that you innately crave, because you are an innate natural being. There are more articles to follow about how to eat well, think well and move well (live naturally), but the overall point of this article is to let you know that you can start to live a more natural life if you learn to honor nature and become one with it. I am not saying to go live in a forest. This is not some idealistic unreachable goal, but a way for you to check yourself, or to easily find out if the choice you are making is a healthy one. Every step you make towards a more natural lifestyle will help you become more attuned to yourself and more attuned to that innate part of yourself that is just waiting to be nurtured.
